McHenry Library: building contractor George H. Wilson and grandson Tom Wilson inspect two large fans for the library's air conditioning system on railroad box car
From the Sentinel: "Two giant fans were box-carred into Santa Cruz yesterday for the main library at the University of California campus. Contractor George H. Wilson, whose company will install the monsters, inspects the fans here with his grandson, Tom Wilson. The fans are part of the critical air conditioning system for the library, and are capable of pushing 100,000 cubic feet of air per minute. The larger fan is for supply, and has an impeller diameter of 89 inches. The whole thing stands 14 feet, 6 inches high by 12 feet, 6 inches wide. The other fan, for return, is a bit smaller at 80 inches diameter. Each requires a 75-horsepower motor to turn the big blades. The fans were designed in Los Angeles by Keller and Cannon, mechanical engineers, and produced by the Recold corporation of Los Angeles."
