"Two UCSC biologists have demonstrated that a peptide hormone found in mammals, TGF-Beta, is capable of inhibiting the growth of developing mammary tissue in mice. The finding could be important in the search for those regulatory chemicals, called growth factors, that stop tissue and organ development once normal growth is completed. The results of the study also may help researchers studying human breast cancer, the majority of which are caused by uncontrolled cell proliferation in the ducts of the breast."-Santa Cruz Sentinel, 8/14/1987, p. 56.
